Women Printmakers of Austin is an organization dedicated to encouraging artists to actively pursue artistic expression through printmaking and to promote community through annual exhibits, regular meetings, and outreach projects. Our objective is to expand the audience for Fine Art Printmaking by increasing public awareness of historical traditions and contemporary techniques.

WPA invites you to The Contemporary Print, a juried exhibition of contemporary Texas printmaking to be held at Big Medium Gallery at Canopy during PrintAustin 2014.
Our exhibition will be a survey of the traditions and the innovations of contemporary printmaking happening in Texas today. Primary techniques for this exhibition must be lithography, relief, intaglio, monoprint/monotype, serigraphy, but may include ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, and artistâ€™ books. We only ask that the primary technique(s) used be one of those listed above.
Francesca Consagra is the Senior Curator of Prints and Drawings and European Paintings at The Blanton Museum of Art, Katherine Brimberry is the co-founder and owner of Flatbed Press and Senior Master Printer, and Jeffrey Dell is an artist and Professor of Studio Art and Head of Printmaking at Texas State University-San Marcos. Combined, our team of jurors have curated and organized over 200 exhibitions and authored a wide range of critical and art historical articles, exhibition catalogs, reviews, and books.

Whiteline Printmaking: A new twist to an American Invention 1pm-4pm Whiteline Printmaking: A new twist to an American Invention Artist Lynne Hubner will share the history of this meditative approach developed in Provincetown, Massachusetts in 1915. The benefit of creating a multicolored print by carving a solitary block will be demonstrated. Alternative matrices will be prepared and inked to show how you may used recycled material to achieve professional results while opening up possibilities for artists with limited hand strength and or confidence in carving. A non toxic approach with a built in registration system you may work on where ever you may travel. No press required.
