2009 Trip to Houston
| The gallery visit to Houston is on for July 25. Come on out for a day trip. Get to know other WPA members. Have fun visiting new places. Schedule: 7 AM Leave central Austin in a rented vehicle. We will meet and park on the street next to Jerry's Artarama, 6010 N.IH 35, Austin, next to Lincoln Village near Highland Mall. 10 AM Arrive at The Printing Museum (printingmuseum.org), 1324 West Clay St. Houston, TX 77019. We will meet with curator Amanda Stevenson and look at their gallery spaces. WPA is considering applying to have an exhibit there in the future so we are going to look at the space and make the personal connection. 11 AM See the exhibit "Existed: Leonardo Drew" Blaffer Gallery at the University of Houston http://www.class.uh.edu/blaffer/ Fine Arts Building, entrance 16 off Cullen Blvd @ Elgin 12:45 Lunch at Maria Selma, 1617 Richmond Ave., (713) 528-4920 1-4 PM Visit the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft to see the exhibit of the 2008 artists-in-residence. We may also find current artists-in-residence working. See www.crafthouston.org/ While in the neighborhood visit Lawndale before going to theMenil Collection. Around 4:00 go to the nearby home and studio of Houston WPA member Andis Applewhite who will show us pieces she is preparing for her solo exhibit at the Washington Printmakers Galleries in Sept. 8 PM Arrive back in Austin Cost: WPA members who go will pay for the gas (approximately $15.), for lunch, and any admissions to venues. WPA will pay for the vehicle rental. It will be a full day but guaranteed to be fun and stimulating. A several WPA members living near or in Houston will meet us. It is bound to be a great exchange.
