Arabesque is an interwoven geometric motif common in Islamic Art. It represents an infinite pattern that extends beyond the confines of the physical world and also symbolizes the infinite nature of God. Here the interwoven layers represent, culture, religion and political boundaries, competing in each panel for dominance of the landscape's identity.
