Broomtree and the Lanternhanger: Part One

Medium: hard ground etching with chine colle, ala poupee, aquatint, drypoint
Plate/Image Size: 12 x 18
Edition Size: 46
BAT Date: 6/2008
Printer: Artist
Signature: AGratovich - bottom right below image
Paper: Stonehenge in fawn  22 x 30
Process/Description:
This piece is the first half of a diptych that pairs a day and night scene in which the natural elements are personified. The movement of the wind in this composition is calmed by the stillness of the moon in the second piece, which I am currently printing. I was inspired by my visit to the planetarium in Chicago when viewing ancient Arabic astronomical maps to use a divide between heavenly and earthly worlds. The dramatic weather of the city had a profound effect on me as well.
Artist's Comments:
My poem on the banner reads: "And at last I know: while you feign such innocence with your longing reach, you have lost your heart to the wandering wind."
