Process/Description:
I used cherry wood for this piece.
It is hand carved with traditional Japanese woodcutting tools. It is hand printed with a wooden spoon on rice paper.
Artist's Comments:
I print in monotypes because I like to play with the color and saturation of the ink into the paper. The saturation depends on the amount of pressure I apply to the spoon as I print. This dictates the saturation and color in a particular area of the print. For this piece an even amount of pressure was applied resulting in an all over tone of black. I fell the stark graphic quality enhances the strong movement and one can fell the beat.
