Mission Statement
The Women Printmakers of Austin is an organization dedicated to encouraging women to actively pursue artistic expression through printmaking and to promote community through annual exhibits, regular meetings, and outreach projects. Our objective is to expand the audience for Fine Art Printmaking by increasing public awareness of historical traditions and contemporary techniques.
The WPA was founded in 1995 by Dorothy Carroll.
WPA Bylaws
Membership Criteria
Artists actively involved in the process of printmaking
who pay dues. Dues range from $25-$35 yearly plus exhibition fees.
For each WPA exhibition a fee is accessed based on expenses
with a minimum entry fee of $10.00.
Good Standing: To be in good standing
each member must be current in dues and participate (includes
exhibiting).
Meetings: Held the second Wednesday every
month at 6:30 pm at School for the Blind and Visually Impaired
on 45th Street between Lamar and Burnet Rd. A newsletter
covering topics discussed and decisions made at the meeting
is mailed to members every month. Board and committee meetings
are held whenever necessary, at least once a year.
Participation: All members are encouraged
to contribute their creative energies and efforts towards
our objectives, participate in our events, and
to share in our responsibilities.

Committees open to Volunteers
Framing Committee: organizes framing specs
so that we maintain professionalism, cleans glass, helps
frame, etc.
Catering Committee: Organizes food and
drink for openings - tables, servers, etc. (Members to bring
food, drink, flowers, etc.)
Promotional Committee: Responsible for
project development, new exhibit locations, promotion, outreach,
promo materials, demos, press releases, invitations, mailings.
Fundraising Committee: Writes grants,
raises funds for WPA. Assisted by chair.
Scrap book/archives Keeper: Works closely
with secretary.
Ad Hoc Committees: Formed as needed by
our working Board
Committee Procedure: Each committee chair
reports to the Chair. Members are encouraged to participate
on a committee.

Organizational Outline for Officers and Committees (working board):
Our board is a working board responsible for the function
of Women Printmakers of Austin. Officers of the Board are Chair,
Co-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Exhibition Committee Chair, and Trade Portfolio Chair.
Terms are one year. Successive terms are allowed with no
term limits. Nominated (or volunteer) with election by majority
rule of general membership.

Duties of Officers:
Chair: Preside over all general membership
meetings. Coordinate activities of the committees and requests
committee reports and actions. Performs or delegates with
follow through any other duties that are required for the
operation of our organization. This includes fundraising,
exhibitions, presentations, workshops, and professional
development. Decisions need board approval but can be reversed by two-thirds of the membership.
Co-chair: Shadows and assists chair.
Helps prepare the agenda for meetings, is able to fill-in
when Chair is not able to hold meeting. Responsible for
membership communications, notifications and phone calls
- can delegate these responsibilities.
Secretary: Record the meetings' notes,
minutes, and other related data. Responsible for WPA files.
Serves as an assistant to the Chair for writing correspondence
and thank you notes as necessary. The secretary can request support staff
from the general membership. Assistants serve at the
discretion of the secretary.
Treasurer: Collects dues and fees. Responsibility
includes all financial transactions necessary for the operation
of women Printmakers of Austin. The Treasurer will check the WPA mail box, enter new members into the membership website, and produce a brief financial report
as requested by the Board. The Treasurer is notified of any amount
spent, has the ability to write checks, and any
amount over $100.00 requires Board approval.
Exhibition Chair: Works closely with Chair
in pursuit and organization of exhibitions, hangs shows, operates and organizes catering and framing sub-committees. Collects calls for entries and posts them to the website for approval.
Trade Portfolio Chair and Co-Chair: Responsible
for the Organization of the trade portfolio. Subject matter
of portfolio determined by membership vote.

Duties of Staff:
WPA Continuity Director: The WPA Director
is a hired position separate from a WPA Board position.
The Director is hired, held accountable and can be removed
by the WPA Board.
Requirements: WPA member in good standing selected
by the WPA Board and approved by vote of the members. Duties
include:
- Attending majority of WPA meetings and working with board
on the development of Women Printmakers of Austin
- Providing transitional continuity when the Board changes
- Serving as Assistant to Board in coordination of WPA
exhibits, programs, events and workshops
- Continuing the development of the Women Printmakers of Austin mailing list
Newsletter Publisher: The Newsletter Publisher is a floating position given to a volunteer member.
Requirements: WPA member in good standing selected by the WPA Board and approved by vote of the members. Duties include:
- Using Adobe InDesign as the editing software
- Collecting articles from the membership for each month’s newsletter
- Updating the meeting agenda for the next month’s meeting
- Write a summary about the previous month’s meeting
- Update the featured artist image and blurb on the back of each month’s newsletter. Members are required to enter this information onto the website before they can become a featured artist. If this information does not come in a timely fashion, the publisher must contact the featured artist to gather both the Hi-Res featured image and content.
- Upload the final newsletter PDF to the website
WPA Webmaster: The WPA Webmaster is contracted
technical support for www.womenprintmakers.com
Requirements: Hired by the WPA Board and approved
by vote of the members. Must be able to do the following.
Prefer a WPA member.
Duties include design, development and maintenance of the
website. The webmaster is responsible for monthly updates
to the site including:
- Uses Macromedia Homesite as the editing software
- Supports members who have technical difficulties logging in or navigating the website
- Sends a form letter email to members who expire in the upcoming month
- Sends a form letter email to members who expired in the current month
- Sends a welcome email to new members which includes information about Women Printmakers of Austin and their login information into the website.
- Sends Membership Discount Cards to members who sign up in the current month
- Receives and approves submitted calls for entries and posts relevant news,
- Linking to other websites to increase traffic and promote
the educational opportunities for members and website
visitors.
The webmaster is also the primary e-mail contact for Women
Printmakers of Austin. She maintains an e-mail address list
and forwards communications among members.
